It's Friday the 13th!
Shello turtles!
It's Friday the 13th! How many of your guys are superstitious? I will say I am. Although, I have been raised that way. I also believe in urban legends. My parents would always threaten me with La Llorona (aka the weeping woman) every time I would throw a fit. That would actually work on me because I have heard stories from my uncle about her. The one that stuck to me was when he heard her cries as a child, and even caught a glimpse of her ghostly figure. So, I decided to go ahead and tell you the story of the weeping woman. Keep in mind, there are multiple versions of this story, so I'll just tell you it the way I heard it.
A long time ago, in a Mexican village, there lived a beautiful woman named Maria. She was known throughout the region for her beauty, charm, and grace. One day, she caught the eye of a wealthy nobleman, and the two quickly fell in love. Soon they were married and had two children, whom Maria adored. However, as time passed, her husband became increasingly distant and unfaithful. He paid more attention to his business and other women, neglecting Maria and their children. Consumed by jealousy and despair, Maria's love turned to madness. Her husband abandoned Maria and the two children to be with a wealthy, younger woman. Blinded by her anger, Maria drowned her children in a river. Realizing the horror of what she had done, she died a broken heart. Even so, she was not granted any peace for her horrible deed and was cursed to roam around the village to find her children. But unfortunately, because her children were dead, she is said to snatch children from the street who are out late, or who disobeys their parents. She is commonly known to be near rivers and dark corners of the streets, waiting for her next victim. If you hear her cry, you better watch out, because you may have been chosen to be the next target of La Llorona.
I hope this story gives you a good spook! Legends serve a purpose. Even if this was my mom's way to get me to stop crying, I would cry even harder. So maybe scaring your children to obey you isn't the best tactic...
Have a good weekend turtles!
